Bolshaya Sadovaya Street

Bolshaya Sadovaya Street is a central street of Rostov and a focal point of administrative, business and cultural life of the city. It is hard to believe that the street of higher educational establishments, administration offices, banks, hotels and restaurants used to be on the outskirts of the city before the 1850s, and it was lined with small wooden and rare stone houses. Everything changed, after A. M. Baykov took the reins of power in 1862 as the city’s mayor. At first, new buildings appeared slowly in Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, but later building spree followed, and the most offbeat architectural buildings named after their owners brightened up the street.
