Pokrovsky Public Garden
The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin is the garden’s highlight. On February 3, 2005, a high cross was consecrated, and the first stone was laid in foundation of the future Church of Intercession. Organizations and businesses from Rostov-on-Don and the Rostov region, from many other Russian cities, towns and settlements donated money to build the church. At the entrance to the garden, there is a monument to the first water supply system of the city. 142 years ago, thanks to efforts of Andrey Baykov, an outstanding city administrator, the first water pump was installed on that spot. At that time, the length of the city’s water supply system was just 5 kilometers. Now its length is twice the distance between Rostov and Moscow. The monument was inaugurated on June 27, 2007.
