BURIAL SITE 1,000 YEARS OLDER THAN EGYPTIAN PYRAMIDS FOUND NEAR ROSTOV

According to the information, “during excavations, archaeologists found the earliest burial site in the Don region, which can be attributed to the 4th millennium BC. Six thousand years ago, one thousand years before the first Egyptian pyramids! Scientists believe that these are unique findings, which can be called a true scientific sensation.”

Original stone constructions were found, they look like underground catacombs. Bowls remained in a good state there, they were traditionally used for food for the repose of the soul; elements of horse bridles – symbols of a horse, a loyal companion of the nomads – are well-preserved too. During the excavations, archaeologists also found copper tools, which can be indicative of a burial site of high-profile people.

According to experts, the ancient kurgan (a type of burial mound), where excavations take place, has long been known. It was mapped way back in the 19th century under the name of Figurin. However, archaeologists did not manage to fully explore the site due to lack of financing for expensive works.

As the source notes, “the very first results of the excavations are indicative of a unique nature of this cultural heritage site, which will be explored thanks to the delivery of the state project of constructing a bypass road near Aksay.”
