FAMOUS FESTIVAL OF DON CULTURE, KRUZHILINSKIYE TOLOKI, TO TAKE PLACE IN ROSTOV REGION

On September 2, the well-known literary and ethnographic festival, Kruzhilinskiye Toloki, will take place in Kruzhilinsky village. Visitors of this annual festival will be able to take part in the re-enactment of the Cossack peace-time living.

Toloka is an old Russian word for a tradition to help each other with big and complicated work: harvesting, forest-clearing and house-building. The festival emblem features grain farmers and a hay pile, symbols of peaceful teamwork. Everybody interested will be able to get absorbed into this old-time work environment.

The festival will offer a chance to try your hand in plowing and furrowing or to take a ride on the rare Fordson-Putilovets tractor. Along with that, visitors will be offered other Cossack activities of the late 19th and early 20th centuries: reaping with a sickle, threshing with a flail on a threshing floor, grain screening, grinding wheat with millstones.

Remarkably, the festival won the Grand Prix of the Russian Event Awards, a national event tourism award. The festival was recognized as the Best Event to Promote Folk Traditions and Crafts. It is on the national events calendar as part of the program, It’s Time to Have a Rest in Russia.
