City Council Oversees Establishment of Museum of History of Rostov-on-Don

On May 16, at the session of the City Council's Standing Committee on Education and Culture, chaired by Yulia Isakova, its members addressed a question of measures to implement the roadmap concerning the Museum of History of Rostov-on-Don.

The Museum of History of Rostov-on-Don is temporarily located in the premises of the Museum Russia is My History at Sholokhova Prospekt, 31 I. The museum has recently organized more than 20 walking tours around the city, and 15 exhibitions in various city's venues, including the exhibition Images of Rostov Reflected in Rostovites’ Everyday Objects, which exposed 158 items that the city residents had given to the museum. The museum of the city’s history has already received a total of over 4,000 exhibits (written evidences of the past, furniture, musical instruments, fragmented decorations of buildings, films and photographs) dating from the early 19th century.

Earlier, the city’s Administration decided to place the museum on a permanent basis in the historical building at Moskovskaya Ulitsa, 72, which is known as the commercial house of the merchant Maksimov's heirs. The cultural heritage site is in a state of disrepair.

They plan to start reconstructing the historic building in 2024, the construction and installation works are expected to take no less than three years.
