The tourist portal TurStat presented a rating of the best cities of Russia for traveling by car and caravanning based on an online survey on the most comfortable Russian cities and regions for car tourists in terms of the quality of roads, auto camps, road hotels and cafes. The Top Ten for car tourists in Russia included Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Krasnodar region, the Moscow region, Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan, Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Rostov and Sverdlovsk regions, the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol. Moscow and St. Petersburg were recognized as the best cities in Russia for car tourists, receiving 22% of votes each, the Moscow region and Sochi got 11%, Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan received 8%, 5.5% voted for Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region, 5% for Yaroslavl and the Yaroslavl region, 3.5% for Rostov-on-Don and the Rostov region, 3% for Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region, 2.5% for Crimea and Sevastopol, 2% for the Leningrad and Vladimir regions and the Republic of Karelia. According to the research, more than 20 million people travel around Russia by car.
