Monument to Penicillin Queen

A monument to Professor Zinaida Yermolyeva, a USSR inventor of antibiotics, was set up in the center of Rostov. It was installed near the entrance to the Rostov State Medical University. Its author is Salavat Shcherbakov, People’s Artist of Russia. The inauguration of the monument is timed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of establishment of the Russian sanitary and epidemiological service and the 125th birth anniversary of Zinaida Yermolyeva. She was a professor, an epidemiologist, a microbiologist. She spent over 30 years on studying antibiotics. Under her leadership, the first domestic penicillin that could conquer cholera was obtained.  The discovery saved lives of millions of people.
