Monument to Soviet and Bulgarian Friendship

Monument to Soviet and Bulgarian Friendship

The Monument to Soviet and Bulgarian Friendship was inaugurated on September 9, 1974, before the City Day in Rostov.

The monument is called “Winged Friendship”. Rostov and the Bulgarian city of Pleven became twin cities way back in 1963, and the friendship is over 50 years old. There is a park named after the city of Pleven in the Western Residential Area. It is very popular among the city residents. This park is home to the Winged Friendship Monument, which is a product of joint efforts of a Pleven-based sculptor Dimitar Tsonkov and local artists. Not far from the park, there is the Alley of Roses with 6,500 rose bushes. According the authors’ design, the two girls having angel wings should be a symbol of unfailing friendship between the two sister cities: Rostov-on-Don and Pleven, Bulgaria.
