The monument to soldiers of the First Cavalry Army commemorates events of 1920, when the First Cavalry Army suffered heavy losses from the cavalry corps of the White Guard during the city assault. The monument was installed in 1972 in the garden square in front of the building of the regional administration office. A sculptor Vuchetich authored design drawings of the monument, the monument was originally intended for the memorial complex Mamayev Kurgan, Volgograd, though it was given to Rostov-on-Don later. The monument portrays three soldiers, installed on a high granite basement. The front and both sides of the basement feature military scenes involving the First Cavalry Army.
