Before 2000, there were no monuments to M. A. Sholokhov in Rostov-on-Don. To celebrate the writer’s 95th birth anniversary, the omission was repaired, a three-meter monument was installed on the city’s embankment. Its author is an Ukrainian sculptor, a winner of the Sholokhov Award N. Mozhaev. The monument to M. A. Sholokhov is a full-length figure of the writer wearing a plain Russian national shirt, with an inevitable cigarette in his left hand and with his right hand in the pocket. The sculpture is cast in brass and installed onto a high marble pedestal one meter high. Four granite stairs lead to the monument.
