The building was designed and constructed as a residential building for those who worked at the M. Gorky Drama Theater. Before the Great Patriotic War, outstanding theater personalities, such as the stage director Y. Zavadsky, the actor and stage director N. Garin, lived there. In the late 20th century, numerous famous actors, such as M. Bushnov and A. Vetrov, lived there, as well as the documentary film maker L. Mazrukho, the writer D. Petrov (Biryuk) and others.
