About the history of Arbor Day in Rostov

The spring Arbor Day is scheduled for April 9 in the Don capital. On the eve of the holiday, we will tell you how and when the “green” tradition appeared, thanks to which it was revived after a whole century, and why an autumn one was added to the spring Arbor Day. The first Arbor Day took place on April 7, 1910. Then two more similar holidays were held in the pre-revolutionary city: April 21, 1911 and April 5, 1913. Thanks to the first two, a grove with an area of about 13 hectares appeared, the third - the Romanovskaya Grove was founded. It is noteworthy that the holiday of 1911 was filmed. Then the tradition was interrupted. It was revived exactly 100 years after the first Arbor Festival.

On April 7, 2010, in Rostov-on-Don, near the new monument to A.P. Chekhov, at the intersection of Pushkinskaya and Chekhov streets, a ceremony was held dedicated to the centenary of the Arbor Day On April 9, the city is going to plant more than 2.5 thousand seedlings trees and 3 thousand shrubs. Places for landing are determined in all districts of the city.
