The greatest wealth of a people is its language. For thousands of years countless treasures of human thought and experience have accumulated and live forever in the word. The variety of human relations, which are imprinted in chased folk sayings and aphorisms, is boundless (M. Sholokhov).
Each nation is a unique culture, history, traditions, way of life. And, of course, the language. Languages are the most powerful tool for preserving and developing our material and spiritual heritage.
It is a very important task to preserve the language base of a large nation, and of the smallest nation. The disappearance of any language means the loss of a particle of the universal heritage.
160 nationalities live in Russia, most of which are small in number and live in a limited area. In the Russian Federation, education is provided in 24 languages, 81 languages are studied as a subject. For indigenous peoples, the situation is complicated by the lack of written language of some of them, the lack of teachers who speak this language. Many languages have few speakers left.
