Maslenitsa: What Events Cultural Institutions will Hold in Rostov Region

Festive events to celebrate Maslenitsa (Russian Pre-Lenten Season) are held at cultural institutions of the Rostov region following recommendations of the Russian Agency for Health and Consumer Rights. The Pancake Week will last until March 14. The Novocherkassk Museum of Don Cossack History organized a theatrical performance. The Taganrog Art Museum prepared a shadow show of a fairy-tale on Maslenitsa, an artisanal fair of traditional Russian arts and crafts, joyful games. The Azov Museum Preserve will present an interactive program for Maslenitsa. Visitors will be able to have an informative quest with contests, theatrical improvisations, team competitions and individual creative activities. From March 9 through 13, visitors of the Rostov Regional Museum of Local Lore will learn about the history of the Pancake Week, symbols of the festival, how it was observed in old-time Rostov, Nakhichevan, Cossack settlements, so don’t hesitate to visit the old mansion of Mark Iskidarov. On the last day of the Pancake Week, people say goodbye to winter, but not in the usual way this year. You will be able to watch a ceremonial and play action associated with Maslenitsa on DON24 Channel on March 14. Spectators can expect master classes on making a scarecrow of Maslenitsa, pancakes, entertaining concert routines, traditional Maslenitsa rituals. The channel will broadcast burning of the scarecrow and a fireworks show.
