Exhibition Japanese Art. Painting, Calligraphy, Graphics

The exposition presents authentic exhibits made by masters from the 18th through the mid-20th century. These are paintings and calligraphic works made on silk panel pictures and scrolls. Picturesque landscapes in sansui style – “mountains and waters” and images of heroes and gods from the Buddhist pantheon. Ukiyo-e is a special direction, the brightest phenomenon of Japanese art. The movement emerged at the confluence of art and trade. The Japanese prints had all signs of mass culture – circulation, affordability, cheapness. It is no coincidence that it is called ukiyo-e (the term ukiyo  means “changeable, worldly, everyday”).
