A small family of a poor Japanese worker gets by almost exclusively on the grandmother’s pension, so some of the relatives sometimes shoplift. One day, going home after another lift, the head of the family kidnaps a little girl from a balcony on the first floor, the mother neglects the child. His wife is not happy with it, but receives the child. The closely-knit family lives happily despite modest financial circumstances, and when they see an advertisement about the missing child, they decide not to return the child to her mother by law.
