To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the Southern Military Command prepares an entertainment program. Festivities will run for three days, from May 3 to May 5. Warships of the Black Sea Fleet will arrive in Rostov, and the military air forces will give an air show.
The celebration starts at 3 p.m. on May 3.
A monument to commemorate perished military builders will be inaugurated near Building 2 of the Southern Military Command Headquarters at 96 Soborny Lane. Ceremonial events will continue the next day.
At 12 noon on May 4, a number of monuments will be inaugurated near the main building of the Southern Military Command Headquarters in Pushkinskaya Street. Later, the Alexandrov Ensemble and the ensembles of the Southern Military Command and the Black Sea Fleet will give a concert in the concert hall of the Officers’ Club.
The most spectacular events will be held on May 5. At 10 a.m. Theater Square will see a celebratory parade of the Rostov garrison forces. And at 1 p.m., operational aircraft will fly above the embankment of the Don River, and at the same hour, for the first time Rostovites and visitors will be able to watch a parade of warships from the embankment, which will include a large landing craft of the Black Sea Fleet, a Grachonok-class anti-saboteur ship, an Ondatra-class landing craft and a small-size gunnery ship of the Caspian Flotilla.
From noon to 4 p.m., military machinery will be displayed in Gorky Park. A field kitchen will offer meals for everybody.
At 5 p.m. a gala concert will start in Theater Square. It will end at 9 p.m. with celebratory fireworks.
