Monument to the Reader of the Vecherny Rostov

In 2004, a hilarious monument to the reader appeared near the printing office of the Vecherny Rostov newspaper. Its creator is a Rostov sculptor D. Lyndin. The sculptural composition is cast in bronze and portrays a young man dressed to the nines, who sits on the bench. He lazily rests against the bench’s back,  with his legs crossed, leaning on an elbow against the bench, with a newspaper in his other hand.   He is obviously interested in the contents, he looks very absorbed. Next to the bench there is a bronze dog. It has perked up its ears and tries to look into the newspaper to learn the latest news as well. The monument to the reader set the stage for a tradition to decorate the city with unusual characters made of bronze. The polished elements show that many people wanted to take a seat on the bench, take a photo with the reader, touch his finger and the dog’s ear.
