City Beach may Start Functioning this Summer on Left Bank of Don in Rostov-on-Don:

Vitaly Kushnarev, Head of the City's Administration Office, made the announcement for the mass media.

The beach will probably open in a historical place - on the left bank of the Don River near Levoberezhny Park. Now swimming is not allowed there.

"The park's set-up assumes that there is a beach area," said the city administrator. "We had the place cleaned, divers explored the bed. We are waiting for approvals fr om all the authorities, including the Russian consumer protection agency Rospotrebnadzor. If everything is OK, the beach will open this summer."

Now the million-plus city has only two beaches wh ere swimming is allowed. It is Druzhba Beach at Kapustina Street adjacent to Druzhba Park (Voroshilovsky district) and a beach on Zeleny Island (Proletarsky district). They are fully equipped to ensure safe summer recreation.
