City Duma Building

The building of Rostov-on-Don City Duma and Administration of Rostov-on-Don represents a structure of the palace type that combines monumentality of forms and elegance of architectural details. The famous architect Alexander Pomerantsev, author of the GUM building on the Red Square in Moscow, was invited to design the project. Construction of the City Duma was completed in 1899. The symmetrical façade has the tiered division as emphasized by the windows of different forms and dimensions. The first floor is rusticated and the cornice is ornamented with decorative dentils. The high domes are erected above the rounded corners of the building. The monument of architecture is ornate with baroque stucco moldings. During the years of the Great Patriotic War, the building was severely damaged but shortly after the war it was restored. In the process of the latest refurbishment, the façade was painted in colors in accordance with the images in late 19th century.
